Just before 2pm EDT a magnitude 5.9 earthquake occurred near Mineral VA, outside of Richmond. The shaking was felt from at least New York to North Carolina and West to Pittsburgh, PA. So far reports of only minor damage have come in from places closer to the epicenter. Earthquakes are usually felt over a much larger area on the Eastern Seaboard when compared to the West Coast. This has a lot to do with the composition of rock and geology of the region.
